Philadelphia Post Members,
For the past several
years, the Philadelphia Post, SAME, has been a proud
Silver Sponsor for the Philadelphia Regional Future City
Competition. Last year, over 1,000 students
participated in the Future City program and 225 of them
attended the competition. Once again, the Post will be
a Silver Sponsor and award a Special Award on the day of
competition, January 28 2012, for "Creative
Applications for Civil Works". This event is part of
National Engineers Week and is an important educational
and outreach program to interest students in math,
science, engineering and technology and to pursue
careers in science, architecture, engineering and
related fields.
In
addition to our Post's sponsorship, individual members
are encouraged to support the competition as mentors,
judges, and in other volunteer capacities.
Opportunities are available to work with 6th, 7th, and
8th grade students and teachers throughout the Delaware
Valley. Please see the attached volunteer form or visit http://www.futurecityphilly.org/ to obtain more
information about the program and sign up as a volunteer
online at http://www.futurecityphilly.org/volform1.html.
Please
feel free to contact John Taylor from the Post's
Outreach Committee at taylorj@pbworld.com if you have any questions or if
you are interested in judging our Post's Special Award
on January 28. Other general questions can also be
forwarded to the Volunteer Coordinator, Jennifer Wetzel,
at jwetzel@upenn.edu. |
